Working together, we can prevent and end youth homelessness and write a new future for Washington’s youth. Here are 8 ways you can become part of the solution, from giving to taking the pledge:
Support organizations working to help youth overcome homelessness by giving your money, time, or expertise to provide direct support to youth experiencing homelessness.
Organize a clothing or supply drive with your friends, family, coworkers, faith congregation, or any other groups you’re involved with. YouthCare offers some tips for making a supply drive successful.
Leverage your personal and professional networks on social media to share updates about what’s happening in your community. Do you have a specific skill set? Share that expertise by joining the board of a local organization working to support and empower youth.
Our successes can be directly attributed to the relationships and mentors we encounter throughout our lives. Young people deserve these same opportunities. Be intentional about getting to know and supporting the youth in your neighborhoods and communities.
Sometimes, all it takes for a young person to tear down the barriers facing them is to have someone believe in them and give them a chance. If you oversee a business in Washington state, learn how you can empower a youth struggling with homelessness through employment.
6. Get Informed
There’s a lot you probably don’t know about why youth become homeless—and what we can do about it. It’s important to regularly challenge misconceptions about youth experiencing homelessness, and share them with your friends and family.
